Despite the impact of extended lead times for master control chips and PMIC components to 32 weeks, SSD shipments through global distribution channels reached 127 million in 2021, up 11% year over year, according to the latest statistics from TrendForce.

Of these SSDS shipped, 42% of the 3D NAND chips came from Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron, Kioxia, and Western Digital, while the remaining 58% included SSD manufacturers that only purchased components for assembly. Brand power is still huge in the retail space, which is one of the reasons Kingston, Vegon, Kingtech, Lexa, and Vision have remained in the top 10. These SSD vendors have been in the retail space and custom PCS for quite some time.

Kingston, while still No. 1, saw its market share decline in 2021, dropping to 26%; Vickon and Kingtech, the second and third largest brands, both gained market share. Lexa and Ronco were equal in shipments, ranking fourth and fifth respectively; From the fifth to the tenth are Chuangji, Jiahe Jinwei, Qicaihong, Jiajia and Taipower respectively. Among them, Jintek and Qirainbow products are mainly for the Chinese market, and Jiahe Jinwei and Jiajia are new brands on the list this year.

There are many SSD brands in the market, and the competition is fierce because production is relatively easy and the market size is growing. Obviously, manufacturers that can make 3D NAND chips have an advantage, because they know their cores better and how to better utilize and control costs. There are some brands that have successfully launched their own high-performance SSDS that are competitive in market segments, even if they are not necessarily priced better, such as Corsair and Ambrose. Although it is difficult for these brands to break into the top 10 list, they can serve their loyal customer base and meet their needs with performance and quality.
